Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 April 2026
Burke's Review is a student philosophy publication. We take your privacy seriously and collect only the data we need to run the publication. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can ask us to remove it.
1. What Data We Collect
When you submit an article, we collect:
- ✦Your name — to credit you as the author if your article is published
- ✦Your school or college — to display alongside your name
- ✦Your email address — to correspond with you about your submission
- ✦Your article text and author bio — to review and, if accepted, publish on this site
We also collect anonymous usage data — specifically, page views and article likes. This data is linked to a randomly generated identifier stored in your browser (not to your name or email), and cannot be used to identify you personally.
2. Why We Collect It
We use your data for the following purposes only:
- ✦To review your submitted article and reach an editorial decision
- ✦To contact you by email with the outcome of your submission
- ✦To publish your article, name, school, and bio on this site if it is accepted
- ✦To understand how the site is used and which articles readers find most valuable
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with any third party except those listed in section 5 below.
3. How Long We Keep It
Submission data
Name, school, email, article text, bio
Retained for: 12 months from submission date
Analytics data
Page views, article likes, anonymous visitor identifiers
Retained for: 24 months from collection
After the retention period, data is permanently deleted from our systems.
4. Who Has Access
Your personal data is accessible only to the Burke's Review editorial team — the editors responsible for reviewing and publishing submissions. No other individuals or organisations have access to identifiable submission data.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate the site. Each acts as a data processor on our behalf:
Supabase
Database storage. All submission and analytics data is stored on Supabase infrastructure.
Resend
Email delivery. Used to send you a confirmation when you submit, and to notify our editors.
Vercel
Website hosting and site-wide analytics (page views, referrers, device types). Vercel Analytics does not use cookies and does not collect personally identifiable information.
Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy and data processing agreements. We have selected providers with strong data protection standards.
6. Cookies and Analytics
This site uses Vercel Analytics for site-wide traffic measurement. Vercel Analytics is privacy-friendly: it does not use third-party cookies, does not fingerprint users, and does not collect personally identifiable information. You can accept or dismiss the cookie notice that appears on your first visit.
We also store a randomly generated identifier in your browser's localStorage to track whether you have liked an article or already had a view counted in the past hour. This identifier is not linked to your name or email address.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- ✦Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ✦Request that we correct inaccurate data
- ✦Request that we delete your data
- ✦Withdraw consent for us to hold your submitted article (if not yet published)
To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days. If your article has already been published and you request deletion, we will remove it from the site and from our database.
